These Are The 10 Best African Countries To Live In For Women

By  |  August 23, 2019

Just recently, US News & World Report surveyed more than 9,000 women as part of its wider Best Countries ranking in order to determine which of 80 countries around the globe are the best for women to live in. And Sweden ranked the highest in the latest standings as they scored top marks for human rights, gender quality, income equality, progress, and safety.

With countries like Sweden and Denmark, topping the latest list of the best countries in the world to live in for women, it goes to show how Scandinavian countries are leading the charge for gender equality and women’s rights with their unflinching commitments to these issues. And one can’t help but wonder how the rest of the world, particularly the African continent, is faring in that regard.

In truth, African countries are mostly playing catch up when it comes to upholding the rights of women but some are doing much better than others. According to a 2018 research, South Africa, Tanzania and Ghana rank top among the 10 best countries in Africa to live in as a woman.

The full 2018 Best Countries List surveyed 21,000 business leaders, informed elites, and general citizens to discover how 80 countries are perceived on a global scale for a range of criteria, from economic influence to citizenship and quality of life.

The Best Countries for women were given a score out of 10 on these five attributes: Human rights, gender quality, income equality, progress, and safety.
