An Updated List Of The World’s Richest 500 Has Nigeria’s Dangote As The Only African In Top Half

An updated list of the world’s 500 richest people has Aliko Dangote as the only African in the top 100.

Bloomberg; one of the world’s most renowned technology provider of financial information and analytics, recently updated its Billionaire’s Index of the world’s 500 richest people. And Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote, emerged as the only African in the top 100.

The man who calls the shots at the prestigious Dangote Group has added another USD 6 Bn to his wealth in the last one year, further consolidating on his position as the richest man in Africa, while holding his own in an elite class that features the world’s top 100 members of the three-comma club.

With a net worth of USD 16.3 Bn as of July 11, 2019, the billionaire industrialist is currently the 77th richest person in the world, according to Bloomberg’s most recent Billionaire Index. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranks the world’s richest people daily using their net worth and their daily business stock activities.

And Dangote is up there. On the African continent, no one else comes close. To put things into perspective, South Africans Nicky Oppenheimer (USD 8.8 Bn) and Johann Rupert (7.2 Bn) are two of Africa’s richest men — after Aliko Dangote — and even their combined wealth still falls short of the Nigerian mogul.

Last year, the billionaire businessman stated his intention to become the biggest philanthropist in Africa, apart from being the continent’s wealthiest man. This appears to be the motivation behind the Aliko Dangote Foundation; a platform through which he claims to have disbursed up to NGN 2 Bn across various Nigerian states.

Dangote is currently recognised as the sixth charitable man in the world, according to Richtopia, a UK-based digital platform. Richtopia uses Kred scores (Kred Influence Measurement) – a medium that attempts to measure online social influence based upon an openly published algorithm – to determine the most charitable people on the planet.
