African tech’s growth is proving relentless. But, in this emerging wetland, the seeds are not evenly germinating across the continent. While The Big Four and a few of their closest neighbors pilfer the limelight, several economies on the continent are yet in the backdrop.
One of such relegated economies is the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo or DRC or Zaire), a landlocked jurisdiction located in Central Africa well-recognized as the world’s wealthiest in terms of volume—and variety—of naturally supplied resources.
In semblance to the current Moroccan reality, DR Congo is one of Africa’s lesser-addressed markets in terms of venture investments, as capital injections are all but nonexistent. Conversely, on the international front, the country is better known for its poverty levels, internet censorship, shady cobalt mining, civil disorder, and—most especially—its role in the ruffling ebola crisis.
