300 Nigerian Women Receive Financial Support To Further Grow Their Businesses

The importance of supporting women-owned businesses has been a topic in many conversations recently. Women-owned businesses are one of the fastest growing segments of the small business community today. These businesses are increasingly becoming the economic stability of families and communities. Women are becoming an economic powerhouse.

Bringing more women entrepreneurs into the market scene therefore offers a chance for more successful businesses.

Women in Jigawa, the eighth most populous state in Nigeria have received immense support from different stakeholders with aims of boosting their businesses and further improve their living standards.

In the latest round, 300 women-owned SMEs have received a financial boost from National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to further grow and expand their businesses. The funds were disbursed on Monday, 6th May.

Malam Abubakar Muhammad, the state Coordinator, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Monday that the exercise was conducted under the agency’s Micro-Enterprise Enhancement Scheme (MEES).

Muhammad stated that the move was aimed at enabling the beneficiaries grow their small scale businesses. He said that the directorate had also resettled 150 beneficiaries of cosmetology training in Kazaure Local Government Area.

The coordinator said that the trainees were given starter pack and USD 14 each to set up their small businesses. According to him, the agency had also disbursed USD 70 each to 50 women trained in tie and dye process. “We’ve also gave USD 70 each to 15 selected artisans to enhance their respective occupations.”

Reportedly, all these disbursements were carried out between January and March this year.

He further revealed that plans are underway to train 300 more women in cosmology in the five Emirate Councils of the state. Mohammad notably pointed out that the training and financial support was aimed at empowering women to be independent and support their families and boost economic growth in the region.
