SA Startup WhereIsMyTransport Secures USD 1.8 Mn As Part Of Series A Round

London and Cape Town-based WhereIsMyTransport, a public transport data and technology company, has secured an additional USD 1.8 Mn from Liil Ventures and Goodwell Investments. The company’s overall investment has reached a figure of USD 5.6 Mn including this round.

Founded in 2008, WhereIsMyTransport has been successfully closing funding rounds every year, starting 2015. The company which started as a college project has made its dent in the serious business landscape, as appears from the consistent funding rounds. Funds from this round will reportedly be used for expanding into Latin America and India.

Commenting on the investment, Devin de Vries, co-founder and CEO at WhereIsMyTransport said, “We are delighted to welcome Liil Ventures to our global team, alongside trusted partner Goodwell Investments. Liil is an investor experienced in our sector and a loud advocate for our market-leading technology. Not only are we strategically aligned, but Liil also brings significant go-to-market value in the Latin American market, and a complimentary portfolio including Cabify and What3Words.”

 

The company had created the complete map of Cape Town’s busiest informal taxi routes and had plans to add another 20 African cities. Currently, the mobility platform claims to have integrated data of more than 30 emerging markets. It is an open API for mobility data and commuter services.

Goodwell Investments who is a returning investor, had participated in the seed round in 2106. The Netherlands based inv has been in news for making a number of notable investments last year like Lidya and MFS Africa.
