Andela Has Spread Its Reach To Egypt Where It Is Now Hiring Only Senior Developers
Andela; the Africa-focused breeding ground and outsourcing firm for software developers, has extended its reach to North Africa by launching a fully remote centre in Egypt on Tuesday, November 5.
The company made this known in a statement in which it announced that its launch in Egypt is in partnership with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
ITIDA is a public-private partnership between the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and the private sector dedicated to developing IT in Egypt.
The partnership between ITIDA and Andela will help Egypt’s ICT strategy as the country moves to attract investment from ICT services and boost ICT export.
Talks of launching in Egypt have been mooted for some time now and the official launch puts an end to the speculation that has been circulating since Andela put out a call for senior developers in Cairo in July 2018.
Andela co-founder, Jeremy Johnson, highlighted the strides made by the ICT sector in Egypt as one of the main factors that contributed to decision to enter Egypt.
“Andela builds world-class engineering teams, and we are excited to be enhancing our talent pool as we expand into Egypt. We’ve been impressed by the incredible engineering talent we’ve seen so far across the country, and we’re excited to help raise the profile of Egypt’s tech ecosystem on the global stage,” said Johnson.
A couple of months back, Andela announced that it was closing its entry-level/junior (D0) developer programmes in Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda, while maintaining the programme in Rwanda. The company hinted at a new direction that involves snapping up only senior developers “who are in demand in the market.”
Andela’s hiring of only senior developers in Egypt remains in line with the company’s recent decision to change the focus of its business from hiring and training junior developers.
Andela hires an estimated 1,200 software engineers and has distributed teams across Rwanda, Nigeria as well as Uganda and Kenya.
In September 2019, more than 400 developers across Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda were let go when Andela announced a change in its business model which was now going to accommodate only senior developers.
